Dr. Miyahara was an alumnus of Aichi Medical School and the medical school of Tokyo Imperial University. Also, he got his MD-PhD at the University of Munich. In 1924, Dr. Miyahara first came here for the Taiwan Medical Conference. During his time in Taiwan, he went all the way south to Kaohsiung just to treat the natives for free. He also opened the Miyahara Eye Clinic (now Miyahara Ice Cream Parlour) in Taichung. Takekuma was not only a accomplished doctor, but an active politician. Dr. Miyahara himself advocated for equality between Taiwan and mainland Japan. He founded a political movement group with local intellectuals which served as a buffer between the Japanese government and the local Taiwanese. What Takekuma did for Taiwanese people will go on forever in history.
