After the Second World War ended, Dr. Miyahara returned to Japan. All properties left by Dr. Miyahara were taken over first by the occupying authority, and were then transferred to the Taiwanese government. Afterwards, the mansion was used as the official residence of the Mayor of Taichung due to its convenient location. Seven mayors lived in the Miyahara Residence during their respective term periods. In 2002, the Taichung Mayoral Residence was declared a historical building by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City. In 2019, the former Mayor’s House was officially renamed the Miyahara Residence and was declared a memorial building by the city government.
