Part of the mansion is of a Western design. It is quite simple but looks pretty extraordinary. It makes use of natural illumination quite a lot. There are a lot of huge windows which keep the house well-illuminated with natural light. It is an eco-friendly green building as it uses sustainable sources of energy. It was necessary to build a modern residence that was stylish enough to represent the social status of Dr. Miyahara Takekuma. He decided to incorporate the Japanese lifestyle into Western architecture by building two separate buildings on the same plot of land. The brick house was intended to showcase his social status, and was mostly used as a guest house where he would socialize with his guests. Its counterpart, the Japanese-style wooden house, served as his actual residence, providing him with the traditional Japanese way of life he desired.
